About

I’m Vamsee — I spend most of my time figuring out what to build with AI.

I lead AI Search at Meta as Senior Director of Product Management, where my team builds the AI-powered search experiences across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Before that, I spent over a decade at Google working on Workspace, Chat, Search, and AMP.

I write about the questions that come up when you’re deciding what to build: how to evaluate when AI is the right solution, how to close the gap between demos and real products, and how to ship AI features that actually deliver value.

I was thinking about ML applications and data-driven products long before AI became the center of every product conversation — exploring how intelligent systems could augment human decision-making.

Outside of work, I live in Alameda, California with my wife Kristina and our son Miles. I’m a runner (including a 50-mile ultra), a reader, and someone who believes technology should serve people — not the other way around.

What I’m thinking about

When you can build almost anything with AI, how do you figure out what’s actually worth building? That’s the question underneath most of what I write. Along the way: what “good enough” means for AI features, how to build trust when your product’s outputs are probabilistic, and how product managers and leaders need to evolve alongside the tools they’re adopting.

Books that shaped my thinking

  • Product & Strategy: Good Strategy Bad Strategy, Inspired, 7 Powers, Beyond Entrepreneurship
  • Personal Growth: The Issue at Hand, Non-violent Communication, Influence, Bird By Bird
